about

When we thought about releasing a new album, we couldn’t release it without paying homage to “Seeds, Roots, Flowers & Fruits” first. So we gathered a bunch of good friends and great producers to have a go on our tracks and remix them. The result DECOMPOSED!

Featuring Magupi , Dedy Dread , Tempura, the Purple Boy , Ha Kwai, , Beat Laden, Kota Alex, Dominik Borde , Cano Guru, Natty Fred, The Rebel, Dublessing and Chico Norris.

Cover art by Alex Louza

The first song of our Decomposed album is Little By Little, since you can say it can be kind of our motto: Take it slow, and do it with love and pleasure.
To remix this track we had the luck to premiere Dublessing, the Dub personality of one of our singers and composers @rodrigocordomar . He has shared with us many great dubs, but this is the first time he releases it in public!
What a (du)Blessing!

The second song that was Decomposed was Ventos Com Tom. And the perfect guy to do this was Dedy Dread. When we talked with him, he instantly chose this song, and we feel it was the perfect choice. We are very happy with this new life of this chilled yet powerful song.

The third song of our Decomposed album is Há no Nada, remixed by Tempura, the Purple Boy, taken to a down-tempo, introspective, desert beat. We feel it is the perfect coat of decomposition for the track.

To continue our Decomposed journey, we gave the great Magupi our track “Greening the Desert”. The result was a funky groove with some desert guitar and psychedelic clarinet. We couldn’t be more surprised and pleased with the result!

Turning to a more melancholic side of our Decomposition, we gave André Xina aka Ha Kwai our usual track for the ending of our show, “A Tua Mão”. The result exceeded our every expectations. A heavy beat with an introspective harmony, with our Guembri and vocals on top, in a 6/8 gnaws transe pace.

Beat Laden is the one that made the master tracks for the original album, “Seeds, Roots, Flowers & Fruits”. When we invited him to be a part of the Decomposed sessions, he instantly chose “Miracle”. He said he loved the track, and he would like to hear a it with a good rhythm section to back it up, since the original is based in the vocals only.

Kota Alex has been huge friend and ally to Terra Livre since the very beginning. One of our biggest fans, critics, moral compass… All the guitars of the original “Seeds, Roots, Flowers & Fruits” album were recorded in his studio with one of his amplifiers. So it was only natural to give him a choice to decompose one of our tracks. It was no surprise to us that he chose “Dança da Semente”, as he is a big reggae/dub lover. What we were not expecting is that he would grab the mic and be toasting the whole track.

Dominik Borde is a legendary sound technician from France, but living in Lisbon for many years. He has been the Front of House and studio sound engineer for many greats, and he is a fundamental part of Terra Livre for a long time. Here he offers his view on an old school dub version of our track “Earth Music Culture”.

Of course when we invited Magupi to enter our decomposed sessions, he wasn’t glad just grabbing one track. Being a natural creator and a music-driven person, he also grabbed our track “Coruja”, where he originally recorded also the marimbas and vibraphones. When we heard it, we were completely stocked, as he made this completely original composition with it.

We have known Cano Guru for many years. For many lives we bumped into each other here and there, and it was only natural to ask him wich song he would like to decompose. His choice was “Miracle”, but that song was already chosen. We thought that it would be also nice to see a different take on the same song, and the result was totally different! So very happy to see that all the songs can have such distinct lives.

Natty Fred is a real nice guy, who cooks very well. He likes nature and all good things that life can bring. We have been more and more together lately, with our church-like sessions at @simply_rockers_sound_system . And it was at one of these sessions that we suggested that he would pick “Mãe Terra” to decompose. He was stoked about it, and we were too! In the end he came with this Coco Dub style.
